I wouldn’t say it’s over the top. It’s just old fashioned. That’s an intermediary accent between British and modern Southern American. That was a very common accent in the 1700s-1800s.
I mean I might have liked it, if I could understand what he’s saying, and I guess my brain is just so fucking annoyed in having to parse it, it shuts off completely. I can’t understand a word dude is saying.
