To defeat the state, we in the core of imperialism need to make U.S. hegemony too weakened for our ruling class to be able to use it to hold back revolution. And to cripple the beast by attacking it from within its heart, we need to take away the social base Washington depends on to be able to maintain its global war machine; that social base being the U.S. working class.
Or maybe the PSL made a hard turn to opportunism when the conflict with Russia broke out and most of the western left fell in line with the imperialist narrative. The accusation of “patriotic socialism” at this point is just a way to dismiss Rainer without actually addressing his arguments. It has also never been defined or even shown to me what makes him one. All i see is attempts to discredit one of the few serious anti-war and anti-NATO movements in the US by complaining about some reactionaries who happen to be associated with a movement that advocates against NATO and against arming fascist Ukraine. Anyone who agitates against the imperialist narrative on this war is doing something objectively positive.
If he was a principled communist he would support Russia’s special military operation as it is the single greatest military blow to US imperialist hegemony of our generation. Instead he backs up the liberal imperialist propaganda about this conflict with leftist and Marxist sounding rhetoric. That is a far worse betrayal of communism than working in the same movement as some conservative jackasses.

His understanding got better, and then obviously far worse. What you say about Becker and PSL are simply untrue, and you can listen to any Socialist Program episode where they discuss Ukraine/Russia or read any liberationnews article as proof of that.
