I liked Kotatsu for some features, but I ended up trying Mihon after seeing it mentioned a lot, and it has most of what Kotatsu does.
And I also had trouble with Kotatsu’s sync. It synced my library, but it wouldn’t update read chapters between devices. So if I read up to, say, Chapter 14 of a manga, then did the sync and read Chapter 15 on the other device, the first one would still have me at Chapter 14. Also, not really sure why, but activating the sync on the second device was kind of a pain. I had no trouble setting it up on the main device, but then the second one wouldn’t open that screen where you can load your library. I ended up having to make my way through some well hidden settings outside the app (as I figured out that the screen it was meant to open was basically a redirect to the phone’s settings), and it wasn’t even worth it, since it’s not properly being synced anyway.
That seems like it only does half the job at best anyway.
Mihon is still just manga like Tachi, so if still be left without an anime app, so I stuck with Aniyomi. I like having the same UI for tracking and reading/watching both.
Yeah, that’s fair. You said you were curious what other recommendations there are, which is why i mentioned Mihon.
I’m not sure if Aniyomi is going to be affected by what happened to Tachiyomi, cause I haven’t used Aniyomi in years, but hey, if it still works and you like it, keep going with it.
I did check out Mihon again after the recs here, but I forgot it was the same as Tachi, just the new branding. I do like it, as it’s basically the same thing, just with half the extensions, though that plan didnt seem to help them avoid people going after them.
Aniyomi is holding up better than I expected it to so far honestly, but no one knows what the future will hold for these kinds of apps…
No, I just always thought Tachi had stayed away from having anime extensions because of all the companies trying to shut down the anime sharing, and manga was still small enough a market to be off the radar yet.
I may be mistaken, but I thought that was their policy to NOT get taken down in the first place, but now we’re where we are.
In the end I kept Aniyomi on my phone and tablet, but now I just use the tablet for manga and my phone to Chromecast anime to my tv. Easier than trying to use both and sync them.
I’m still on Aniyomi. It still works for what I need it to, and I’m so used to the interface.
Tried Kotatsu since it supposedly can sync between devices, but it felt too clunky.
At this point I’d just go to a website if Aniyomi were to stop working.
I’m curious to see what other recommendations show up.

Wait, am I interpreting this the wrong way, or did you mean that Mihon is already threatened?

Ah okay, so I did read that wrong then.
Sorry to worry you, we didn’t need to be losing more apps already!
It sure can, but he UX for sync is one of the clunkiest mishaps I’ve seen in a long time. If you’re on Samsung it’s basically unusable
Lol I’m glad it wasn’t just me!
