There is intense debate in Germany as to whether raising taxes and cutting subsidies is the right way forward. An alternative solution would be extending the suspension of the so-called debt brake in Germany, a constitutional limit on budget deficits.
However, that move is strongly opposed by a key coalition partner of Mr Scholz – Christian Lindner, his economy minister, of the economically liberal FDP party.
I don’t know anything about German politics. Anyone have more info on this Liberal FDP party?
Socially left = they are pro LGBT, generally supportive of minorities, pro vaccine, pro abortion, don’t care about religion etc and on many similar issues. They are in a coalition with SDP. Social democrats also believe in capitalism (with caveats) yet they are considered left. I don’t get what you disagree with

Very simply put: FDP = libs. Economically right, socially left
In which world is the FDP socially left? They’re the rich man’s party. Economically right/liberal, socially right, believing in capitalism.
