I guess I should not be surprised but the lack of seriousness by which the government treats this topic I find alarming.
If I’m not mistaken, the way a spring drive works is that it’s really just a quartz movement, but the power comes from the watch movement.
Everything always seems to circle back to the idea that keeping people in ignorance is better because they’re too uneducated or stupid to understand. I just don’t buy it.
I suspect retrofitting a whole new identity system to Fediverse will never happen because server admins, or instance admins, will come up with all kinds of reasons why they don’t like the idea of not knowing who their users are. Some of them would probably allow it, but I bet a whole bunch of them wouldn’t, and we’d get into this fragmentation where some servers won’t allow posts from those types of identity, etc. It seems to me much easier to take Nostr and just give it the functionality you get inside the Fediverse.
Agreed, but that is exactly how NOSTR identity works, and the reason I think NOSTR is such a great protocol.
You realize you’re describing Nostr right?
This is silly. The web is not in decline and Google is not at fault. Most of the web is garbage, and Google helps us find the information buried in a sea of ads and repetitively copied/reworded content. We are moving to a world where putting up a plagiarized page with tons of ads will not be profitable. The sooner that day arrives, the better.
This has a lot more to do with consumption than with production. Most of these islands are small, and it’s unrealistic for them to have large populations or a heavy tourist industry without desalination plants. Energy needs to become cheap, and honestly, wind farms and solar can help with this.
I don’t really care if content I create is used to train LLMs, but I do object to Reddit monetizing the content I placed on their platform. Without somehow rewarding me for that content. I’d rather just post it here and let the LLMs train on it and let the value accumulate to the LLMs. I do think there’s a greater good for humanity. And just because I say something intelligent or unintelligent, I see that as a gift to the greater good of society. I did not create that gift as a benefit to Reddit shareholders but having said all this I’m realistic, and the best thing I can do is try to keep the value I add within open platforms like this one.
We all need to move on from this, including myself. We know Reddit’s business practice. If we don’t like it help make the fediverse better. Having said that your posts will be scrapped over here to the benefit of nobody so is that better? At least on Reddit you have the option of owning their stock.
How is nostr promoting crypto?
I agree. I also notice a constant push to ban anything that is deemed offensive, which in most cases is just a statement of opinion that someone did not like.
Nostr is ultimately the way forward and he knows it. Nobody controlling your identity other than yourself.
There is nothing wrong with wanting something you don’t need.
Do we know they are monitoring our usage of the launcher?
I just came in here, looking for these exact questions and was about to post them when I saw this thread
Marking posts as read also sync to the server? I know this was an issue in the past because it couldn’t be done as a batch? I know I posted some thing about this topic along time ago, and that was the answer.
I am also looking forward to doing community specific searches.
I just got a tag heuer solargraph watch as my every day watch but in your case I would get a nice citizen or seiko watch that can take a beating. I like quartz watches end even better solar versions because you can set them and forget them for decades.
It’s not worth getting this upset about this stuff. That’s my 2 cents.
I think Mlem lets you go directly to reader mode.
Mine is 1Password mainly because I really like the way they handle Security by forcing you to use a key that they issue you that we know is very secure because of its length than randomness. It also has the best ui of the ones I have used.
