The white house has plenty of influence over israel, they’ve just chosen to green light the genocide and netanyahu’s regional escalation against the advice of our own experts.

An arms embargo would empower anti-netanyahu voices in israel who could point to his mismanaging of israel’s most important bilateral. It would reduce the rate and kind of weapons the idf could bring to bear against civilians, saving lives.

You can find isolated examples from western cuisines (often rich people food) but mixing savoury and sweet is still an exception. You don’t get things like how palm sugar is used in so many savory staples from SE Asian. Applesauce or quince paste aren’t as ubiquitous in western food as chutney is in Indian.

I’ve also just met way more westerners who talk about salty/sweet mixes being gross. Raisins in rice, pineapple on pizza and fruit in salad are all things I’ve heard (mostly americans or australians) react strongly to.

You know that feeling you get when you look into your dog’s eyes? The same parts of your dog’s brain became active, so they’re probably feeling similar emotions at that moment.

I always think of white people as the ones complaining about raisins in food. So many delicious savory dishes with raisins from the Middle East or India provoke strong reactions from western pallets used to food that only does 1 thing, rather than combining multiple flavours.

Larger platform changes such as ranking content based on quality, rather than engagement, might hit at the root of the problem

My understanding is that a lot of the big agribusiness is structured as a monopsony - all the people farming a particular crop have only one big Ag company they all have to sell their produce to and that company sets the price low enough that the farmers doing the actual growing for Big Ag are still getting screwed.

The word “occupied” is doing the heavy lifting, but saying “invaded & occupied” implies that they’ve done as little invading as occupying, which is not true.

The USSR isn’t included, so the implication that socialism means 0 occupations is also untrue.

All states that identify as socialist have done fewer invasions than the US, as a combination of having existed for less time, having had less power during that time and -yes - having a slightly lower inclination to invade.

All powerful states abuse their power to unacceptable (if differing) degrees. That’s the nature of hierarchical power. All nation states are vermin.

My high school girlfriend’s parents were catholic and they used to say: The only thing worse than a heretic is a protestant all the time. They meant it in jest, but the joke was that plenty of others didn’t say it and did mean it.

I’m not criticizing the author I’m criticizing the purpose that verbal tool was constructed for. It was designed to close off debate and that’s the only way it’s ever used.
