Dwarf Fortress on Steam and itch.io has been a mega success for Bay 12 Games, a deserved success, given their previous free release supported and updated for a long time. Now the developers have confirmed it's closing in on a million sales.
How’d you judge the Steam / GUI version?
I did like one playthrough of the original a long time ago, maxed out at 200 dwarfs and then eventually stopped, just to never touch it again because I could not be arsed to learn the controls & UI again.
I like the depth of DF but there’s titles like Odd Realm or Songs of Syx that are much easier to get into after taking a break.

Much much better with mouse support. Still not perfect, definitely needs tweaks but DFHack helps with some of that. Much more playable now
