Sadly for us all, Gillette corporation had a shit ton of razors to sell after the First World War, and teamed up with media to mass body shame women into buying their product en masse. Even today those profit-driven beauty standards can hardly be escaped. Thankfully the younger generations seem to be less susceptible to this sort of messaging, and more accepting of themselves overall, so it seems this outmoded idea might finally be something we can move beyond.
