Firewatch is a single-player first-person mystery set in the Wyoming wilderness, where your only emotional lifeline is the person on the other end of a handheld radio.
I had always interpreted the Walking Simulator label as a pejorative and never paid any attention to games described this way. Recently though I got The Invincible because some of the screenshots reminded me of old John Berkey paintings and I’m a total sucker for that kind of stuff, and I just absolutely loved it. I’m looking forward to trying out Firewatch.
I think the label originally was pejorative, but then fans of the genre took it as their own. Personally I like walking sims and I think it’s a hilarious way to describe them, but yes it was originally some neckbeard complaining about how as a genre they’re barely even games
And they are barely even games. Which is awesome. Sometimes I want to play a game, sometimes I want to watch a movie. Sometimes I want to do something in between

Death Standing got this label, but I loved that game. Id walk anywhere in Sam’s shoes any day. Gotta keep on keeping on

Yes exactly, and this is the beauty of games as a medium.
