I don’t see it either, with uBlock Origin, but I also can’t scroll the article. I can see the first few lines but then it just fades off, and then there are links to other articles.
I tried disabling JavaScript, which usually disables these fade effects, but that causes the site to not load at all. Which is terrible etiquette on Microsoft’s part, I should at least get a placeholder message.

Weird. I see a button to continue reading, and clicking it gets me the full article

I don’t doubt it. Just clear that it’s not universal.
Fwiw I’m using Firefox with ublock origin installed, so I don’t see a lot of the ad-driven craziness on the web.
Are you on desktop or mobile?
Because I’m seeing it on mobile, which makes sense with it being an app.
I see it on mobile too. But if you have a “reader” mode, use that, and the full article will show
