I have tried it. It was actually pretty decent. You can even upgrade the screen to a higher resolution now if you feel adventurous.
Or you can just install holoOS (the steam deck OS) on a smaller PC and set it up to your tv and game all day with a controller. Or you can dock the steam deck to your TV and connect any controller to it. With linux, the possibilities are endless.
