  • Not disagreeing. More devils advocate.

But are you basically saying if your home is attacked by another nation. One much larger and using draft to fill the ranks of attackers.

You are happy to allow your leader to fail to convince people to save your and your family/childrens lives.

Because at the end of it. That is why many folks support draft for a nation under attack.

I personally always think it is best as a last resort. Trained full time pros are genrally better at the job. But in an attack like this the amount of work needed to build and manage defences needs a huge labour force. Even modern tech warfare needs huge labour.

It is the idea that everyone needs the actions of these people to survive. That makes the vast majority express views like Ops original comment.

  • Yep. But honestly the Tories are skilled at this shit. Labours lead has way more to do with hatred of the Tories. Then hope/love for labours offering. While the polls still have a large number of undecided responses.

The Tories know full well they only need dislike for labour or stammer to at the least leave labour with a weak majority maybe even change to a coalition government.

And while ill say the Tories are worse off for partners in the event that a coalition is needed. A Labour Lib Dem or less likely Labour SNP gov is not going to be hugely popular.

While the Tories turning things around with some last min bacon sandwich like crap is very doable. Fighting for a weak gov where they can take advantage on Labours infighting is likely the path they see ahead.

  • Agreed. But its not about starmer being good. Its about being less bad then the Tories.

FPTP is an utter fuck over of an electoral system. That leaves very few places where voting 3rd party or even not voting is not a vote for Tory rule.

Its unpleasant but a simple fact that evil is quantifiable. When your choice is limited via the voting system. Refusing to vote for the lesser of 2 evils basically means you support goes to the greater.

  • I’m just doing it with more frustration than ever before

Pretty sure that represents the labour lead atm. Def folks wanting to vote against tories rather then for labour. Unfortunately it also leave the Tories with an open attack vector. They just need to time the right attack to dramatically split the left vote in Lab seats where they are still 2nd.

  • Why are you still trying to link the two people still now.

Because that is where the Tories are likely spending some money. They keep bringing up the he supported Corbyn. They and the right wing of labour spent in the last election to destroy his reputation. So the Tory party sees it as a cheap attack to push the idea over social media.

I am a little disappointed that it is not answered with, how Rishi was willing to support a PM candidate with a racist publications in the media and later willing to lie to parliament to prevent their ability to shut down his policies.

  • Agreed. My grammar is bad. I am always happy when folks politely point out errors. Or ask to clarify things it confuses.

But I am also visually impaired. So situations like this where every obvious typo is pointed out. I judge as being someone looking to reinforce their own feeling of lacking intelligence.

Also, when you consider intelligence is a measure of a minds ability to adapt. Failing to interpret based on small errors in spelling etc. Is far from an indication of higher intelligence.

  • Also, that isn’t the case for this show, where it isn’t the bigot who is the butt of the joke, but those calling him out.

I am curios what I have missed that indicates that. As I have not seen a script and cannot imagine the writers openly saying so.

There is no doubt folks in the 70s. Even those with the right intent made mistakes. And did what folks now would consider stupid. And I have no reason to assume the writers of this are not also making such mistakes.

But I have seen nothing that talks about the intent or plans of this show beyond it being about a news presenter getting cancelled. It really sounds like you think adressing the negativity of the anti woke crowd is impossible. While at the same time making some non evidenced rather nasty accusations about the writer of a show you haven’t seen?

  • I can only guess.

And I really do not know much about India.

But I have heard that their is a huge amount of shame connected to trans behaviors. To the point that I once saw a video where the government hired trans women to embarrassed people into paying taxes. This was at some time in the 90s so drag wa she term used. But it was basically hiring men dressed as women to spend time hanging around the business locations of people failing to pay their taxes.

Honestly if this is how it can be seen in the nation. I can very much see a family wanting to claim a member was tricked rather then chose the option.

Very like we used to see wealthy families refusing to admit thoer darters got pregnant. Back in the 40s many young teen women were placed in mental institutions when they got pregnant. Later on we saw mothers claiming the dauter belonged to them rather then an unmarried teen daughter.

I can see the motivation being similar.

  • A lot to assume fropm the description.

It may well be done in the way Alf Garnet was back in the 1970s.

As many here will be way to young to remember the character. He was the main character of a show called “Till Death Us Do Part” He and his wife were an old married couple. And required home help (government funded care coming in daily to help with keeping the house tidy etc).

The show was famous for the racist crap alf would sprout. Often to his Black home help worker. But in general he was expressing some of the worst 1930s ideals in a 1970s environment.

The best way to describe the ideal and general way most Brits understood it. Is to share the view Warren Mitchell the actor who played alf described it in an interview.

He was asked about the portraial of the character. To paraphrase his reply.

I was once approached by a guy on the street. Who told me he was a fan and loved the way Alf took the piss out of the “Darkies”. To this he responded. You idiot. It is **** like you we are taking the piss out of.

While if that event actually happened (who knows) it was clear that guy was not effected by the piss taking. As he did not even recognise it.

As a young man (early teens when that interview happened) who grew up with the show. It was very clear to everyone else that we were laughing at the character not with him. The show always managed to portray his views as either idiotic or just pathetic. He was seen as a scared old man worried about losing his power in society. Even by a 1970s audience at a time when most were way less informed about things then now.

Ill def agree such an attempt now would be difficult to pull off in the same way. And was likely less effective then the writers hoped in the 70s.

Id defiantly be interested to see if it can be done effectively with a modern audience.
