I wish there was a way to avoid all the fruit and vegetable packaging. That stuff is by far the number one thing we recycle.
I could imagine everyone having their own protective something they could use to take fruit/veggies home in. Or maybe even a deposit-and-return system like with bottles.
My partner just uses these mesh bag things and washes when they be to be washed.
My number one is the plastic bags of from deli meat, I’m assuming these will be going back to wax paper which in not upset about.
I imagine a resurgence of waxed paper….
The very same wax that’ll keep the paper from decomposing??
Exactly that.
Why are we asking anyone other than the corporations that are manufacturing all the plastics to do anything about plastic use? Grocery stores don’t make plastic things. They buy what’s available and low cost to get the job done. If the companies that are making the plastic bags, containers, cellophane, etc are penalized for their continued production we may see change. No plastic manufacturer is going to invest in any alternative product if they don’t have to. For over 20 years the push/blame has been on the individual (make sure you recycle all the plastic you bought) and now grocery stores. Makes no sense.
So carbon taxing and not allowing their products in stores isn’t punishing them?
Guess that’s a matter of opinion. Are most products still packaged in plastic? How many millions of bottles of water/soda are sold each day, week, year? Do we want to save the planet in time for future generations or are we justifying our own use of plastics by saying we tried?
The latter, it’s like how we are planning to transition from gas to electric cars in a decade
