…I have no idea if I’m looking at an actual show clip or a very well made fan thing. All I know is that I need to watch Lower Decks. But it’s also something that my SO would appreciate, and it’s hard enough to make time to get through TNG (her first Trek). Gah!

That is 100%, pure, Lower Decks footage. It’ll be tough, but it’s worth the wait given the sheer number of references from every source of Trek. Stay patient, stay strong.

It will be painful and slow, but I appreciate the support lol. I’ve got a lot of catching up to do myself, as stuff got in the way of consistently watching DS9 and even getting into Voyager (being a teenager), Enterprise (being an adult on night shift), and any of the streaming stuff (being an adult both burnt out on streaming subscriptions and way behind in the lore). It makes sense to go through things together with her, but… yeah only watching like 3 episodes a week is excruciating lol. Especially since I am a natural born binge-watcher.

Go watch it now! That’s Dr. T’ana. A Caitian…Here’s an actual scene from this glorious show:

Tendi: You mean I’m gonna be doing actual science?! Like Jadzia Dax?!

T’ana: Who the fuck is that? I don’t know who the fuck that is. No, like Spock!

That’s one of my favorite things about this show. They reference characters from other shows a lot but unless it’s a hero character (like Kirk, Spock etc) they usually don’t know who they’re talking about. Cuz why would they?

I grew up seeing Kirk as a god … saw Picard as a fatherly figure … Janeway as my severe aunt … Sisko as that uncle I was supposed to see but never had a chance to … it’s weird because they all feel like some sort of long lost family I grew up with but never really got to know that well.

I just saw my third episode of Discovery and finally got introduced to Stamets … and I absolutely hate the guy … but I’m growing to love him.

It’s weird and funny … when I first jumped on Lemmy and found Risa and all the other meme communities … I felt like Burnham wandering into a new situation against their will and meeting a bunch of secretive people who looked down at you for not knowing what you are doing, where you are and where to go … now everything and everyone is growing on me.

You are a complete pussycat compared to Stamets … a brilliant mind but far kinder than the on screen version.

I have an old Irish friend, she was a tiny little person with an enormous heart and great soul … I’m basically part of their family in many ways … and she taught me that you shouldn’t judge people but there is one thing you can fairly judge in a person … by watching how kind they are to everyone. Because if they are kind, chances are high that they are intelligent.

And you my friend are very kind.

After migrating from other platforms and finding Lemmy, you’ve made my introduction to this new platform very enjoyable. Stay well my friend and we’ll see you in the memeverse.

Please please please please remember this once you get to Season 4. Or even late Season 3 really but especially Season 4.

I try to be to people what people rarely are to me. It’s also why I help folks and give them gifts.

However don’t slouch on yourself. You are pretty fucking amazing yourself. I’m glad you’re here because it’s great talking with you, anytime! You’re a really kind soul. So give yourself some credit.

I struggle to see how spock is the source of catboys. Anyone care to explain?

Not everyone in 1965 had a nice new big television, let alone a colour one.

Here’s a top of the line RCA model from 1954…

Very much. Console televisions. We had I believe a Broksonik (not sure of that spelling). Also had a console stereo that was even bigger. It had AM/FM, turntable, 8-track and believe it or not a mini bar! Ah the 70s.

Those early TVs were also a fire hazard … I had an elderly friend who said that he worked as a TV repairman in the 60s because the technology was new and so basic that tv repair was actually still a thing. The electronic parts were so basic that it was common enough to start a fire … it was vacuum tubes that used a lot raw power to power them up … the things generated heat! … and the radiation alone would blast a considerable amount into your living room.

I also have another older friend who keeps a collection of old portable phones he’s had over the years. His first one is a Motorola brick from the early 90s … and it’s literally the shape of a brick and about the same weight too. It came with a small zippered pouch attached to a shoulder strap … if you wanted to you could use it as a swinging weapon. He said his friend had the same model and the friend worked as a travelling salesman and was constantly on his phone back then … the friend developed brain cancer on the right side of his head about ten years ago and they always said it was from over using those old phones.

Between all this … lead paint, leaded gasoline, carbon emissions and asbestos everywhere … it’s a miracle we survive as a civilization.
