    Ah. Encryption back doors, and now passport database to find criminals.

    It’s almost like our politicians saw China’s social credit score and thought it was a great idea…

    I feel like the sets of people who have passports and people who frequently seal stuff from stores have a very minimal overlap. This probably won’t do much.

      Not for the states goals, no. But someday it’ll be very useful to have that searchable, facial-recognition database of passport holders, won’t it? Perhaps knowing what political opponents are up to? Locating people with dirt on you quickly?

        But the databases already exists. Every country keeps track of its passports, they don’t just hand them out and forget about it.
