@JustineSmithies @support last couple of days (weeks?) they suffered a lot from script kiddies/ddos attacks and such. They have been down intermittently last week
lemmy internally has SQL flaws that have not gotten much attention. A few days ago, over the weekend, lemmy.ca people studied some of the SQL and exposed a problem where every single new comment and new post on a local server updates 1500 rows in a database table where it should be updating just 1. There have been similar runaway SQL statements discovered. Fixes for the most recent issue are already on GitHub waiting for merge and publication.
I don’t understand! What does one stand to gain by attacking lemmy?
Not sure if there’s a tangible gain to be had (apart from if it were Reddit interfering), but some people just enjoy being jerks simply for the sake of being jerks. Look at the whole The Lizard Squad situation with Xbox and Playstation awhile back, there was no reason, they just wanted to upset people for the hell of it
Dopamine rush?
The thrill of transgression.
IMO, they think it’s super fun to attack things that are popular for some reason.
I found this. Don’t know if it’s official. https://lemmy-world.statuspage.io/
It’s official, it is linked in this community’s pinned post.
It is official.
Well I’m able to see this 23m later, but actually the reason I’m here isnbecau lemmy.ml just went down this very minute.
@support It’s working again for me now thanks.
Great! :)
also is there a status site or mastodon account to follow? to make sure if the issue isn’t on my end.
@jagoan @JustineSmithies with how unstable lemmy.world has been, it’s probably a better idea to move to another instance.
You’ll still be able to see lemmy.world content, whether comments or images load is another questionpushed to the bottom for speaking common sense 👍
More for pushing your own agenda on a completely unrelated comment. They weren’t asking about moving, they were asking about a status page.
…because of how much lemmy.world goes down.
which could be avoided by joining another instance.
So not completely unrelated. I’m sorry my mega-master
plotagenda was too obvious
