Not exactly. Verspatung could roughly be translated to treating something with a spade (Spaten). But the word doesn’t exist, yet.
You mean Verspätung, which is a german tradition of the Deutsche Bahn.
Nononono treating something with a spade would be ZErspatung. VERspatung would be turning something into a spade (or at least into something spade-like)
