It’s inconsistent for mine. Sometimes I will get in no problem, sometimes I bounce off until I change IP/location, and sometimes I get hard blocked.
They want ad revenue and the app is the only place they can be confident you’re not blocking.
I hate the fact that reddit has so much valuable data in it, like thousands of extremely niche subreddits and answers to your questions.

Somehow the laws that took down Backpage and Craigslist personals left Reddit pretty much unscathed.

A large function of Reddit is to data mine people and then (I speculate) blackmail them later for this illegal/adult/unrevealed content if they turn out to be influential. It does - ever since the “new new UI” I had been using that exclusively. Still, there’s a limit in how many pages back you can go in your comment history to edit / delete. If you happen to find one of your old comments by other means, you can still edit it - but not through your own history. But I see that long before that caps out, some of my comments have already been restored, after having been gone for months… Those fuckers…

I was - I had waited a bit too long and the API was locked down, I was under the impression that the deletion tools no longer worked (and a bit hesitant to give my login / password to some third party tool)

I’m checking it out by your recommendation. I do post sometimes so I use Dystopia for that but oh it’s a horrendous UI. I suppose that’s why Spaz allowed it - and because it’s supposed to be for visually impaired.

There’s also firefox extension that does just that, in case you forget.
On mobile you can use RedReader. When reddit revoked access to its API, it made an exception for RedReader, because that app supports certain accessibility features which are “not yet” (i.e. never will be) supported by the official reddit app. So if you still want to access reddit on mobile, use RedReader, it has no ads and is much less irritating than the official reddit app.
I think they made an exception because it’s so awful that no one would ever want to use it…

I like it because it does not have any ads, and because it’s very easy to switch between accounts. You can even post from one account while logged in to another.
But that is the only reddit mobile app that I ever used. I never even downloaded the official one, nor did I try any of the other third party ones that got blocked. I could believe that some of them were much better than RedReader.

I am a lazy prick, so I’m just now using Power Delete Suite to mass edit my stuff on reddit to promote lemmy.
I’ve heard a fair number of people say Reddit looks for and rolls back mass delete/edits like these. Not sure how true it is.
It did for me, like once or twice. Just running the script again worked though.
Don’t delete your account, go back and mass change your posts and comments to AI generated gibberish.
It poisons their communities and will make it harder for Reddit from monetizing their content for Learned Language models for AI or for search.
