App battery usage > “Restricted” does not work well with some apps.

Apps like Instagram, TikTok, etc, even if the background usage is restricted they still consume battery on background. And I don’t need to receive any kind of notification from them until I open them.

Because of this I ended up uninstalling them and now I use Chrome. But the mobile web experience is much worse at least for Instagram.

Edit: some user recommended me “Ice Box” app to freeze apps in the background. I’m testing it and looks nice!

WhatsApp is the worst because I can’t uninstall it and use it from a mobile browser. But it’s the top battery drainer for me. It definitely leeches much more power than it needs for a few background messages and call notifications.

You can uninstall it in about 30 seconds with ADB.

Of course its using a ton of data, its Facebook data mining you.

I mean I can’t uninstall it because it’s an app that I use for communication with everyone. It’s like the messages and phone apps for me.

Btw somebody recommended an app Ice Box and works fine to freeze apps so they don’t run in the background. Now I can install a lot of shitty apps that I use once per week or once per year and freeze them. Or apps where I don’t need notifications arriving.

I’ve frozen like 20 apps and this night in 7 hours got less than 1% battery drain. (At 26% capacity). Generally I get 4-8% drain overnight. But this could also be that the battery menu got bugged or something. Edit: that 1% drain in one night it was probably like a bug from android battery menu everytime is different. But still I’m getting better standby than usual!

This. The major issue with those apps is that they need to continuously collect your data in the background (for example Google Maps will record all the places you go to in real-time) and I don’t think they’ll make it easy for you to just disable their background telemetry, and that obviously will increase battery usage.
